ASK UP
The online resource Ask UP continues to demystify how university presses work for an audience of faculty, students, researchers, and writers. Its growing collection of frequently asked questions, managed by the AUPresses Faculty Outreach Committee, describes common scholarly publishing practices among university presses around the globe.
University of Wisconsin Press and University Press of Kansas hosted the site during the past year, curating and answering new questions. In addition, the Faculty Outreach Committee reviewed and updated several FAQs and added resources addressing journals publishing.
The Association has continued to share a featured Ask UP FAQ every week on social media to inform and engage a wide audience, adding weekly LinkedIn posts to its customary Bluesky and Facebook outreach in the past year.
PUBLISHING SESSIONS
This past year, the Faculty Outreach Committee co-sponsored a 4-part webinar series on university press publishing with the Rutgers University-New Brunswick Graduate School of Education; Samuel Dewitt Proctor Institute for Leadership, Equity, and Justice; and Center for Minority Serving Institutions. Individual sessions addressed “Turning Your Dissertation into a Book” (October 2025), “Publishing with a University Press” (November 2025), “Making Your Book Public” (February 2026), and “How to Publish in Academic Journals” (April 2026). Video recordings for each session are available on the Ask UP Resources web page.
The Committee also sponsored a publishing information session at the 2026 Modern Language Association conference, organized by past committee co-chair Anne Savarese (Princeton).
OTHER AUTHOR/EDITOR RESOURCES
The AUPresses Resources web page offers materials and tools for authors seeking publishers, such as the Subject Area Grid, in addition to helpful tools such as the Permissions FAQ, the Peer Review Best Practices Handbook, and Digital Art Submission Guidelines.
AUPresses continues to be a contributing organization of the Think. Check. Submit. project, an international initiative that helps researchers identify trusted journals and book publishers for their research, offering a range of tools and practical resources.
The Journals Committee published a toolkit for onboarding new journal editors, a resource to help presses orient new editors, familiarize them with the production process, and provide them with an overview of their responsibilities and the tools that will help them to succeed in their new roles.
